EAL Accelerator Subject
Course Overview
English as an Additional Language (EAL) Accelerator is a 21-week subject designed to boost grades in EAL, IB English B, and other core subjects by improving students’ genuine understanding of the English language across all four macro-skills: writing, reading, listening, and speaking. Grammar rules are also taught in a simplified manner, helping students to prevent their most common mistakes, and greatly increasing their overall fluency. EAL Accelerator contains the most important content for Year 11-12 years in only 1 semester. This helps students stay consistently ahead by practicing EAL assessment types long before they are due in school.

EAL Reading & Note-Taking Program
Course Overview
Reading & Note-taking Accelerator is a 21-week, 1-Semester subject and divided into three streams based on difficulty: beginner, intermediate, advanced. Each Reading & Note-taking stream aims to improve students’ reading by:✓ Reading books, magazines, articles and glossaries.
✓ Discussing books and articles as a class.
✓ Creating a glossary to improve vocabulary.
✓ Learning how to critically analyse texts.
✓ Learning fast & effective note-taking strategies.
✓ Learning how to plan and summarise key ideas in their own words.
✓ Learning memory tips & tricks.
✓ Practicing each reading type,
o Skim reading, scanning, extensive reading, intensive reading.
Reading and note-taking skills are indispensable across all subject areas.
By the end of this course, all students should have a faster reading speed, better note-taking skills, a more accurate understanding of what they read, and a better memory of the details.
The aim is that students will finish the course with a new habit of reading books, articles, and magazines; and that this new positive habit will help them to enjoy studying in general.
